apple_crumble !! Let me tell you why I love apple crumble... because the golden crunchy exterior has a crumbly sweetness to contrast with the crunch, and the gooey hot apple goodness sinks into your stomach like a sugary depth charge. Seriously, happy birthday... I wish you all good things, and it's always been a pleasure knowing you.
Happy birthday to
zazuomgwtf who is an amazing individual, warm and funny and intelligent and an inspiration to all her friends. We love her muchly. Big hugs and glittery birthday wishes to you sweetie.
Happy birthday to Freddy Krueger!! Oh, actually it's not his birthday at all. But he did top the scariest films of all time on Yahoo Entertainment... a poll conducted by idiots, clearly. You put in Saw and I Know What You Did Last Summer but not The Exorcist or Omen or The Wicker Man? Morons. A plague of nightmares on you... which is the only reason I'm mentioning this poll, incidentally. Freddy and I go way back, you see. He haunted my dreams regularly in my very early teens, trying to recruit me as his assistant to help him kill all my friends. And it's no use telling yourself it's just a nightmare when Freddy's involved *shudder* But I was able to take care of him once and for all when I was 13 or so. He never came back. But he still deserves a special mention for lingering in my subconscious so long. Here's looking at you, killer.
There's something very odd happening on the Internet somewhere, first brought to my attention by Warren Ellis. It's called Second Life and I'm not sure how to describe it. The Guardian takes a stab here but their coverage is hesitant and often condescending (saving princesses indeed... pah! A pox on your camels and your genitals!) It's not a game, as such, although it resembles an MMORPG. It's not a community site, or a merchandising site, or a marketplace, or a design forum. But somehow it is all of these things and more. It is a very odd thing indeed. It has a virtual 3-D graphics-orientated world with avatars and buildings and forums and communities... but not for gaming, or communities, or any other particular purpose. It just... is. Which I find very perplexing indeed, and reminiscent of books like Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash and Tad Williams' Otherland series. The Future of the Internet? Discuss.
Nice quiet weekend hanging out with
buddleia to get over how badly I've been sleeping, and how troubling my sinuses are (I am starting to think it's just their natural state, and I should just resign myself to the fact that breathing normally is something that other people do). I had a doctor's appointment for the sinuses which was underwhelmingly inconclusive and unsatisfying considering I've been waiting 3 months to be seen! But we will see what happens next. I have a new phone and contract - the Sony Eriksson 610i for those who care about that sort of thing. It claims to be cleverer than my old phone but I still prefer the look and feel of the old one - so it goes until I get used to it. What other things do you lot care about?
The new Battlestar Galactica is pants-wettingly good. No more in the way of spoilers but if you're not watching it you should seriously consider handing back your SF membership card in shame. Lost and Veronica Mars are ok, but off to a strangely slow start, both of them. Supernatural is great except it seems to be a bit more "Oh woe!" and less of the fun and silly. New shows? High recommendation for the superpowered Heroes, which is great so far... let's see if they can maintain the momentum. Jericho is also reasonably good so far although I'm worried I might get bored of it very quickly. Oh, and Skeet Ulrich is an entirely lame and bland central protagonist.
And you know what? The new BBC Robin Hood series? The biggest pile of granny knickers I have seen in a long time. It's so bad. So *so* bad.
buddleia couldn't even make it all the way through the first episode. I did - but only out of pity. Somebody take it out back and shoot it for heaven's sake.
