Troubled Marvel Fanboy Seeks Closure...
Feb. 27th, 2007 04:30 pmAny Marvel geeks out there?
I’ve just read Civil War issue 7 which wraps up the Civil War storyline Marvel have been running across many of their major titles for the last year…
So now the dust has settled and the clear victor has emerged… and in a shock twist it was Iron Man and his fascist superhero registration programme run by Shield and the government… and I’m partly very surprised and partly disappointed. The “ending” was abrupt and anti-climactic after the huge long epic multi-title storyline… and of course the worst thing about it was that it didn’t really end. It’s been spun off into another mega-series running in 2007 (The Initiative) and across other titles, including taking the opportunity to spin-off several new ones. Which in itself is hardly surprising – it’s all about the money, kids – and I suppose that I should be grateful that for once a crossover event has had a significant and lasting impact on the Marvel Universe… but there’s another part of me which is thinking “oh god please just let it end!”. Which, of course, it might… in a year’s time when events in the newly-created utopia run their course (hmm, let’s see… superheroes run and regulated by the government in a programme overseen by Iron Man? Pshaw, yeah, that’ll work…)
Any thoughts from anyone who’s been following this? (or anyone who would like to know what happened or, indeed, what the hell I’m talking about?) Or am I the only Marvel geek who is ever-so-slightly troubled this month?
