Last night's weird dreams...

...left me in a funny mood. They involved an old school friend going through his living-room wall full of old videotapes (mostly recorded off the tv) trying to find something for us to watch. With things like Dallas, the A-Team, and other shows from my early years... he'd stick them on, and let them play for a bit, then change his mind and hunt around for another one. In other parts of the house, a party was going on. The oddest programme he stuck on was an old vanity piece in the style of "An Audience with..." or "An Evening with..." which had an ancient fat decrepit drug-addled Judy Garland singing duets with her young daughter (not Liza) interspersed with phoney-sounding family anecdotes in front of a live studio audience. It was kind of creepy and kind of sad and absolutely hypnotic...

And the reason I'm dreaming of Judy Garland? I'm reading an excellent book right now... WAS by Geoff Ryman which is all about Dorothy and Frank Baum and Judy Garland and oh, all kinds of strange and interesting things. Recommended.
