May. 20th, 2008 12:49 pmSigh. Crazy workplace.
My transfer to another department came through on Thursday afternoon and I was just waiting to hear about my start date - you know, whether it would be a week, or two weeks, or a full month. (I was really hoping it wouldn't be a month)
At 11.47am on Friday, one of my managers came up to me and asked if I had any problems starting on Monday, and if that would give me enough time to do my handover notes and train up my replacement?

Blink blink. Err... no, not really, crazy manager person. Particularly as my line manager and supervisory colleague were both out of the office on Friday! So I did some fancy footwork (“I am not left-handed!”) and now my last day in this team is Wednesday. Then I have a long sweet FIVE day weekend, and start in my new team on Tuesday. Bliss.
I still think llama farming would be saner and more logical than the hysterical gyrations of some companies. Pfft.
Anyway, other things – last weekend I chilled out big time and it was really nice to get the rest. The weekend before I went to a friend’s 30th birthday party somewhere in Kent in some gorgeous country house garden estate – there were orchards, outdoor hammocks hanging from trees, acres of fields, a giant Wendy House, a kid’s adventure area, a BBQ.... I played croquet, and I was slobbered over by an Irish Red Setter. She also tried to hump my leg. Yes, I said she. Go figure.
One of the things I am doing this weekend is to go to another friend’s 30th birthday party – seems to be catching. It’s fancy dress. Even better, this one is a surprise party.
Another thing I am doing this weekend – on my birthday, I am going out to see Indy IV followed by dinner at a great restaurant I know. Rock! I can hear the theme tune in my head already. Should be great :)
FIVE DAY WEEKEND! EAT THAT, EVIL OLD WORK TEAM! \o/

My enthusiasm for the original Indi movies may have waned, but that theme tune still has the power to prickle the soul to excitement.

Ahhh Indy IV, will it be brilliance or crush our childhood innocence even further?

Indy IV - I have faith. It might not be as great and exciting as the previous ones... but, well, I was a lot younger then, you know? I expect thrills and good solid story-telling.
