Remiss

Yes, I have been, my happy little goblin brood. I apologise. There are reasons for this, my troubled troglodytes. Unhappy reasons. We have never been allowed to check the Internet at work, but everyone did. Now however something has changed: since the office move, my desk is in direct line of sight of our big manager :(

Work is making me unhappy for lots of other reasons as well. My Invisible Manager for one – she’s here so infrequently I just wished her a Happy Christmas in case I didn’t see her – and the bad organisation and communication that’s going on. Things are ruefully shambolic, and I’m sick of running on a state of emergency – that’s what it’s been like the last 2 weeks. I can’t count the number of days I’ve eventually arrived home only to head straight for the vodka.

Sigh. This was the first week that I’ve seriously contemplated finding another job.

It was October, the nights grew colder and began to swallow the day.

Arghh, I don’t want to talk about work stuff – too depressing. It only bugs me because I care. More fool me.

Other things then… my favourite of the new shows is Pushing Daisies which is clever and witty and warmly adorable. Supernatural is still going great guns, and I’m excited with the direction they’re taking this season. Heroes – while still good, and with the characters we’ve grown to love – has been a bit flat so far. The Hiro subplot is pointless as far as I can tell, as it can’t have much impact on the main plot (if I have to eat my words later, I will be happy, and slather them in mayonnaise) and there a couple of other old characters in there whose plots likewise make no sense so far. Still waiting for things to fall into place… but sad to say it’s no longer the show I’m most excited in seeing during the week, which is telling. SGA is great, period… just picking up exactly where they left off, with some minor cast changes, but the same old storylines – this is neither good nor bad, as it means we’re not getting mind-blowing episodes nor the excruciating dreck we’ve had previously – John Sheppard as an evil alien bug vampire, anyone? Prison Break is likewise business as usual, but in a slightly more boring way so far – and there was one major character change that really did piss me off royally, for reasons I may discuss in a spoilery post sometime.

(I’ve tried really hard not to give away any spoilers – if I failed, beat me with palm fronds and tell me as soon as)

I’ve also been playing World of Warcraft occasionally (he let slip causally, to shrieks of frenzied laughter from his girlfriend) which I am enjoying.

So much so that I bought Halo 3 for the 360 and have barely touched it.

The nicest thing about WOW is that my friends in Bahrain play it, and that means I can chat to them occasionally while slaying angry bears and giant spiders. Just like old times, eh?

Last night [personal profile] buddleia and I watched a terrible film called DOA (Dead Or Alive) – based on a video game, it starred 3 hot girls as champions of their fighting styles. It was like Charlie’s Angels meets Street Fighter. It was so bad, we loved it, and had a hysterical night. I heartily recommend it to anyone who likes really good bad films.

And I’m still a little sad that I didn’t do anything for Halloween, but I am a strangely perverse little creature and didn’t plan anything, so that’s all on me.

Brood! That reminds me – the new X-Men comics crossover event looks awesome! It’s called Messiah Complex… I’ve read the first issue, and it features art by Marc Silvestri, the sinister Sinister and the Marauders, and later on Lady Deathstrike and The Reavers, possibly Magneto, possibly Jean Grey… yeah, this one’s going to be good. Plus

If you ever enjoyed the old Chris Claremont run, this might be a good time to pick them up again… I’ve been waiting for them to be great, indispensable reading again for a long time. Hope it doesn’t disappoint.

Also for those of you who were wondering what the weather is like in the UK: it’s cold. Very cold. And looks to stay that way all this week. It begins. Batten the hatches and stock up on matches.

I’ve been ill on and off, and out of sorts, and somewhat fraught of late but things (by things, I mean me) are finally settling down – good. Everything else is just fine, thanks for asking.
