That bloody Israeli cabinet and their goddamned Prime Minister...!! Just when things were gradually getting better...

Israel plans retaliation for rocket strike: http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,,1813199,00.html

"Israel's security cabinet approved the re-occupation of parts of the Gaza Strip today in response to a Palestinian rocket strike...
...Ehud Olmert, the Israeli prime minister, called the strike a 'major escalation' and vowed harsh retaliation, while his cabinet colleague, Zeev Boim, said: 'As far as I'm concerned, the people of Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahiya [northern Gaza] can start packing.' "

GREAT! Wonderful idea! That'll end the hostilites! Have you learned nothing from the Cold War about the escalation of violence? Do the words Mutally Assured Destruction mean nothing to you?! These fucking people... why do they have to be the ones with the power to pull the trigger?!

(Just to be clear, I'm not blindly one-sided on this issue. I don't hold Hamas' military arm and Palestinian militants to be blameless in this, and of course I don't condone their kidnapping of Israeli soldiers, young or otherwise. But it makes me *absolutely furious* that in one casual step, the Israeli goverment blithely undoes years of hard-won detente! ARGH!!)

This is why I don't talk politics. It's bad for my blood pressure and the eardrums of those standing nearby.

Love you.
I feel exactly the way you do about the situation.
actually I feel worse because I feel personally responsible for this.
I want to yell "not in my name" whenever they do such things.

i'm in a conversation right now about who's scarier, north korea or amerikkka. i think people completely miss the whole "larger aggressor" thing. palestine may be bad, but israel is sooo much badder. iraq may have been bad, but amerikkka is so much badder. who's got the biggest penis, you know. obviously it's way more in-depth than that, but that bit seems to be overlooked so often by people.

Often these days I just can't get up the energy for rightous outrage. There is so much that is wrong with the world and it's stupid, short-sighted, fearful, angry, selfish people doing so much of it. If I think too much about it I could start to lose hope for the future.

bollox to ya'll

*sigh* things like this (and oh, there are so so many of them) just tax my faith... ok, so yes, theoretically, well, practically even, i am a lapsed Quaker - with emphasis on the lapse.. and yes, I do struggle with the most basic principle of being a Quaker - a pillar of the faith... yes, its very foundation in fact -- under no circumstances are you allowed to fight. Ixnay on the fighting. Pacifism R Us.... which, basically is like asking Mike Tyson to outdo Ghandi... the only thing I want to do is press the punch button.

And, when this shit is kicking off all the time, it makes it even harder to believe a second important tenet (though not quite as high priority as the first) 'there is that of God in everyone'... which means --- well, it just means what the fuck is happening with the Israeli prime minister and Hamas?.. did God just up and hide under a rock with you guys.. ? if there's, like, going to be peace one day then, um, there's going to have to be a commitment towards... um.... PEACE?!!!

Note the above - a classic example of why I'm lapsed. since when did you ever get an irrate Quaker?

And before there's teh whole bullshit 'it's impossible for us to come to some agreement as we hate each other so much' - look, if the UK government can say sorry for bloody sunday and the IRA can talk about a ceasefire after eight hundred years of UK domination and persecution, AND the sodding POTATO FAMINE fiasco, believe me, this might just be a walk in the park. we could even make badges..
