Caveat Internetor
Jun. 4th, 2007 05:20 pmConsumer warning for UK folk on evil ISP companies - Talk Talk and Tiscali. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!
For fuck's sake.
I've been without internet at home for two months now.
For fuck's sake.
I've been without internet at home for two months now.
The first month was entirely the fault of an ISP called Talk Talk (also knownas the Carphone Warehouse) My broadband connection worked fine and without a hitch for the first three months, and then died completely for no discernable reason. The inept Technical Support people were unable to fix it, or work out what the probelm was, so after weeks, and spending a fortune on phone calls, I told them I was taking my custom elsewhere.
Unfortunately I chose Tiscali. Having done my research now, I can tell you that Tiscali is one of the worst ISPs in the UK, but I didn't know that at the time.
Get this: for three weeks, they told me there was a very serious problem with my phone line. They said it might be an exchange fault, and their engineeers were in consultation with BT's engineers running numerous tests on the line to find out what the problem was. Last Friday I found out they were lying to me.
I called BT because I was getting suspicious and wanted some corroboration. They told me there was no testing being carried out on my line. They tested my line while I was on the phone, and told me it was working fine. However, they said, the broadband component was still rgistered with Talk Talk because Tiscali had never put in an application to take it over. So the "technical problem" was that noboday had bothered to do soomething so incredibly simple (and basic) that even I understood what was meant by it. Worse? They lied to my face about it. Repeatedly lied to me and strung me along.
I was so furious, I called them straight away and gave them a huge piece of my mind. I called them many things, and cancelled immediately and with no charge. Now I've put in an order for cable (Virgin) because I'm sick of dealing with unreliable incompetent morons.
Wish me luck.Unfortunately I chose Tiscali. Having done my research now, I can tell you that Tiscali is one of the worst ISPs in the UK, but I didn't know that at the time.

Date: 2007-06-04 04:50 pm (UTC)PM has also had huge problems with Tiscali - they continued to take money from his account even when he cancelled his contract with them, he got the money back from them eventually but then got DEBT COLLECTORS sending him letters even when he had a letter from Tiscali stating that he owed them nothing! The saga went on for about 4 months and he's only just resolved it. We hope.
PISS CRAP WEE MORE LIKE etc.
