There are 4 or 5 undersea optical data supercables that have been cut or otherwise deactivated, according to news reports.

According to BoingBoing  it was probably sea monsters.

This is why I love BoingBoing. Also Bahrain gets a mention.

Well I seem to recall that they have been discovering giant octopuses that were previously only in deep waters.
