Weekend Equals Shennanigans

What else did I get up to this weekend, I hear you cry out in your multitudes in the street? (And really, don’t you have anything better to do? Go read a book. Sheesh.)
Well meiner kinder, I went to a wedding in Cambridge on Saturday. Amusingly, Buddleia couldn’t come because she… had to go to a wedding. Heh. Must be the season.
Well meiner kinder, I went to a wedding in Cambridge on Saturday. Amusingly, Buddleia couldn’t come because she… had to go to a wedding. Heh. Must be the season.
It was lovely… my friend Liz was getting married, and I never see her enough. Not that that was particularly the best time to grab her for a catch up! In typical wedding style, I barely saw the bride. Luckily I managed to land on a table with some of the loveliest of Liz’s friends – no fighting there at the back – including the sublime catsgomiaow in a buttercup summer dress, her wonderful boything pm, the eponymous kittylyst and his beautiful ej and other equally lovely lj-less people. And also had to chance to talk to the delightful lisekit and editor about rabbits and the etymology of “burlesque”.
Cambridge, superfluous superfluous, adjective, adjective, RABBITS!, huge Hall for dinner, grumpy women paintings, Ceilidh dancing – yeah right! I was exhausted just watching… in fact, it still aches – and then random running around trying to find a hotel room. A little light rain cut short the “official” wedding photos but the B&G didn’t want to stand out there too long anyway. At one point, I got locked out by the porters! But the wedding cake *gasps* was made ENTIRELY OF CHEESE! A huge mountain of cheese, all different kinds piled on top of each other, with my dead satiated body sprawled across the bottom ;)
Lowlight? It was a nightmare trying to get a hotel, and Travelodge’s automated hotel line sucks donkey dick ;) The staff weren’t much cop either:
Me: So do you have any rooms?
Surly man: Nuh.
Me: Ah, I see. And what about any other of the hotels around here? Do you have any telephone numbers? Do you think they might have any r-“
Surly man: Nuh. All full. *picks nose, wipes it on counter*
But as I was with aforementioned lovely lovely people I didn’t care too much, it was nice just to hang out for a bit longer after the wedding. And I managed to find somewhere to sleep in the end, so phew!
Mostly I just took loads and loads of photos, as I figured that would be a nice thing to do for Liz. And yes, I did get a few chances to talk to her which was superb… she nabbed me to go off for a sneaky fag at one point. Cheeky Bride ;)
All in all then, a wonderful day, and I’m very happy for Liz and Rob, and very happy I went!
