Suzanne Moore's article in The Guardian on Mon 2nd March 2020: (an editorial i.e. opinion piece)
"Women must have the right to organise. We will not be silenced."
...and this article is absolutely in my own opinion transphobic. Making trans people excluded - or worse, denying their gender/refusing to recognise them at all, thereby making them invisible - is horrific, and not in any way "feminist" or "protecting women".
I have friends who are feminists. I am a feminist. I also have friends who are trans. One of my best friends, in fact, was trans.
Anyway... there has been a lot of kerfuffle about this online, as you can imagine.
But there has also been a response from within the Guardian itself - both from the staff (a petition) and from the organisation (a response to the petition). For more details, please follow the link to this Buzzfeed article:
"Hundreds of staff at The Guardian have signed a letter to the editor criticising its 'transphobic content' "
Sharing because it saddens me to see CIS feminists and transpeople going to war - but I know where I stand on this one. Yes, women should have safe spaces - but transpeople deserve to exist and be acknowledged.
