And while I'm watching the snow flurries through my window, and trying to decide what to do next... unemployment is less fun when it's unplanned... here's another poem I wrote:
Euphoria
You
are the song that birds sing
amaze me every day
make everything groovy
make me smile in a special way
My
expiry date is near
window of opportunity is creaking shut
heart has never beat this fast
fingers keep tracing your shape in the dark
This
could be unbelievably good
might be the end of me
feels like life begins today
makes all my yesterdays better in retrospect
because every fucked up precedent brought me day by day
speeding to you. I am afraid. I am afraid.
I like it.
I love your taste. You give me faith.
I'm terrified and so surprised
and mesmerised and so alive
and so afraid but that's ok
I like it.
My heart keeps singing morning songs
Your name invades the bus timetable
And rainbows keep appearing out the window when it rains
I've a feeling nothing ever will be quite the same
And it's changing
And it's changing
(I am so afraid)
With the shifting
and the drifting
of tectonic plates
Like a mountain meteor hurricane
landing on my face
While I'm sleeping
you've been creeping
through my inner space
With your sticky fingers
leaving gooey traces
and I like it
yes I like it so much
You are terrifying
and so is this...
...anticipation.

I wish I could say I wrote it recently, but I didn't. It was written in April last year, when I was feeling very happy and positive about everything. Unfortunately the feeling didn't last :(
And yes, it was inspired by a real girl. But that's not the point. Even when I wrote it, I knew nothing was ever going to happen between us. But the sentiment, and the poem, were too important to let slip away without trapping on paper.
