A fun weekend punctuated by marathon sleeping sessions and film watching.

Having to bail out of [livejournal.com profile] spintrian's fun night out at Heaven on Friday due to illness (yes, I am collecting them) was made up for by a lovely walk in Hyde Park with the delightful [livejournal.com profile] rozk on the sunny Saturday. Then [livejournal.com profile] spintrian came over with Doritos and dangerously-modified salsa and we gaped at the new Dr Who... which I quite like. Technically my first Who, too. I might have caught an episode or two in the past, but I've never lived here during a season. I hope it leads to a resurgence in British sci fi... or indeed in producing any decent shows with a budget and audience! But I'm not holding my breath.

Saturday night was sacrificed to vodka, and most of Sunday too for that matter. I was able to surface briefly to watch Earthsea on Channel Four, the show "inspired" by Ursula K Le Guin. I can see why she disowned it with tears of rage... light fluff, The OC meets Hogwarts trash. The books are much better.

Also finally got round to watching a few films I'd been hoarding including Bertolucci's The Dreamers (very sexy), The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (moving yet depressing for a comedy) and Sideways (very funny with an excellent turn by the professionally downtrodden Paul Giamatti)

And earlier in the week I celebrated my last day of work by watching Constantine. I have to agree with [livejournal.com profile] blankbadge, it's an enjoyable film if you give up any hope of it resembling the original comic. Tilda Swinton gives a great performance as the Bowie-like Angel Gabriel, and the ending with Constantine outmaneuvering the Devil is well done. But, you know, much better in the comic. But kudos to any film which manages to get the gorgeous Rachel Weisz into wet clingy clothes more than once...

And yes! Hurrah! I'm unemployed again! After all the wrangling with teh Evil Temp Agency who don't understand the concept of "No", I am once again a free agent. Free but poor. So back to normal then... Dutifully scouring the Guardian job pages and the net for new jobs now. I did celebrate my first paycheck by splurging out on supermarket shopping online, and will quite happily do it again. £5 is a small price to pay for service to my door... normal supermarket shopping involves crossing the busiest motorway in the area with bags of laden shopping and fear bursting my heart muscles.

My Brazilians are leaving in mid-April, and I just received the unhappy news that my lovely French assistant Sophie (every house needs one) is leaving too, and very soon indeed. So now I have two large rooms to fill in the next two weeks. Eek. I have already prostrated myself before the soon-to-be-homeless [livejournal.com profile] spintrian and pleaded and cajoled with him to consider moving in. I think it would be wonderful to live with friends rather than strangers again, and he is house-broken after all. Money might be a problem, but he's going to have to look around for somewhere to live soon, and will face the same hassles. It just makes sense to me. In a way, I'm surprised we've never lived together before now. In fact, I don't think he's lived in a shared house for a long time... 1999? 98? Something like that. But I'd rather have him here than more anonymous lodgers with close-ended lives and limited social skills.

All of my London friends seem to be away at the moment, otherwise I would saunter out of the house today. I have an inexplicable yen to visit a museum or the London Zoo. No, I don't understand it either. Added to my sudden craving for Easter Egg chocolate- but why? I've never cared for it before- I think I might have been impregnated by something alien on Saturday night. The sinister pervasive joy of a new Who? And I know what you're thinking, [livejournal.com profile] spintrian did stay the night. But as I've explained before, we're just best friends. And I might have strange tastes- Easter Eggs? Why, Doctor, why?- but they don't tend to the phallic. You can keep your cock, I'll stick to my fluffy Easter chicks, thank you very much. Speaking of which, I would like to formally welcome Spring and say hey to the sun. Nice to see you, it's been a while. I look forward to seeing all that lovely skin suddenly reappear. Hello! Must rush, that's my libido knocking...

We I'm not exactly soon-to-be-homeless, in fact I rather more have a multiplicity of homes to move into, what with my Gran's house, my parents shopping for a house in the British Area 51 equivalent that is Lincolnshire, and your good self.

I was thinking today it will be nice to have garden parties. And soirees. I shall be a hostess, avec mostest.

Hmm. I can't help thinking you'll be getting a good deal out of me, all told!

Rachel Weisz in wet clingy clothes you say.

Did you know in The Mummy, in the scene where she swims to shore in her white nightdress after they've escaped from the burning riverboat, her outfit became *totally* transparent, and they had to go through the entire sequence in post frame by frame painting in a non-see through nightgown for her.
