The little things...
Oct. 12th, 2004 01:23 amStrange, isn't it... how it's the little things that can make you absurdly happy for no logical reason?
Example... walking along the road today. (Fuming actually, but we won't get into that. Suffice to say my Dad is leaving soon to return to Bahrain, and good thing too.) So... thinking angry thoughts, stomping along, barely aware of surroundings. And a falling leaf glides gently down and lodges in my collar, right in the hollow of my throat. (You know... the bit that's mentioned in The English Patient, the film that is - I am a timepressed philistine and haven't read the book.)
I stopped. I've been trying to catch a falling leaf for *years*... they are very good luck, you can make wishes on them, etc. As everyone knows, they're pretty easy to catch... until you're actually *trying* to catch one of them and then they defy all known aerodynamical laws.
Well... anyway. And then one just flutters down, pretty as you please, when I am paying not the blindest bit of attention to leaves, trees, or anything else. And lands. Just on me.
It made my day.
It was like finding a diamond ring in a Crackerjack box.
(Without the finger)
So the only thing I'm wondering now is... what shall I wish for? It's extraspecially lucky (lions and tigers and bears, oh my!) so nothing mundane or worthy. It should be something magical, and selfish. Any ideas?
And what would *you* wish for?
