New Years Peeve
Jan. 4th, 2006 12:34 pmThis New Year’s was a heavyweight contender for My Worst New Year’s Ever. the evening started with a case of food poisoning causing me to throw up before leaving the house... make that in able to leave the house, actually. I was still ill, in indescribable ways, for the first few hours at Random House Party in Ealing. It’s a good thing I wasn’t feeling very sociable, I suppose, because the party turned out to be a gathering of some hundred gay men, most of whom knew each other and stood around chatting in tight cliquey groups. Those who didn’t know anyone cast their greedy eyes over the tasty man-flesh, and licked their lips. Oh, and there were also 4 fag hags women there. And me.
By the time I was feeling well enough to drink it was around 11:30. Dutifully, I drank. By this point, the people I had gone with were mostly... well, far gone and busy chatting away. Various acquaintances were rather brusque when I tried talking to them... clearly I was far less interesting than hunky available gay men at that point in the evening. I did talk to someone who reminded me of Mr Tumnus, and a very tall Danish man who could have passed for a shorn Wookie. Mostly, I flitted (flit? flat?) like a flittering thing.
We left at about 3:30 or thereabouts, planning to catch the tube back home. Somehow I managed to be separated from
spintrian and his friends, and couldn’t find them again. Nor could I find the tube station. So I walked back. It’s only 3 miles but let me assure you, a 3 mile walk back home on New Year’s Day is one of the loneliest and most miserable experiences imaginable. So yeah. Not best pleased by my New Years. Should have hung out with
buddleia and her friends instead. Hell, even staying in and watching TV would have been preferable.
My Dad has just turned up unexpectedly for a visit, so no rest for me. He’s here for some medical tests, but nothing too serious, one hopes.
In the plus column, I treated myself to an X-Box (one of the old model, natch) and it is a pretty, sexy and wonderful thing. Not that I’ve had much chance to play with it yet. Sadly, there seems to be a spate of illness running through some of my friends (and, in fact, their computers). At least I’m not sick now, and neither is Bud (my computer). As long as you’ve got your health, eh?
