Oh! And hedgehogs!

Before I forget, it looks like we might be running out of hedgehogs. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/conservation/story/0,13369,1687999,00.html) Which would be terrible, not least because I've never seen one in real life.

I thought you should know.

i was going to post this article but never got round to it. an english countryside without patchwork quilt appearance and without hedgehogs is not an english countryside, it is a 51st state.

i am deeply saddened by the speed at which we are being killed by our governments.

You've really never seen a hedgehog?!

Hmm. I suppose they are quite rare. I've seen 'em a lot because there was a resident one up the lane most of last autumn, so he was a fairly regular visitor.

Sweet animals. Absolutely crawling in fleas though. If you see one, don't ever pick it up.

Once, when I was walking beside the Regent's Canal, I saw a hedgehog that had fallen in and couldn't get out. I managed to reach in and rescue it and then dashed for home, because, of course, the first thing that happened when I caught it in my hand was that every single one of its fleas jumped on to me. But I made sure it was in a safe place in some bushes in sunlight before I left.
