Argh! Save me, LJ, you're my only hope!

I'm reading a really bad book at the moment. This is all the more frustrating because I thought it was going to be a good book.

It's called Shadowmancer by G. P Taylor, a former vicar. It's, um, not very good, I'm afraid. I don't want to rant about it. I just didn't like it.

But alack! Alas! I've run out of books to read! And my local library is closed until August! ARGH! However will I cope?

Please please please could someone recommend some decent books?!! It has to be fiction, I'm afraid, and preferably but not necessarily genre.

CRYPTONOMICON OMG! Tho you've probly already read it... How about "The Diary Of A Provincial Lady"? It's HILARIOUS if you like that sort of thing. I have several friends who swear by Jeeves And Wooster, so that's what I'm going to read next... ooh ooh THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES!

Hmmm, I probably can't help you too much babe as everything I've ever read I've had recommended by you I think. *scratches noggin* I'm reading F. Leiber's Swords series at the mo' and they're quite good fun, the wife has been working his way through anything recommended by Richard & Judy and not complained about much of it. If I think of anything I'll let you know.

Hmm. Children's book-wise, I highly recommend Susan Cooper's 'Dark is Rising Sequence', which I find myself rereading quite frequently. Okay, so the first book is not great, but the others are acts of genius.

Otherly, I'd recommend:

The Vintner's Luck, by Elizabeth Knox
Rough Music, by Patrick Gale
Nights in the Gardens of Spain, by Witi Ihimaera
Stone Junction, by Jim Dodge

Those're just a few off the top of my head.

You've probably got too many recs now but what the hell. If you haven't read the Thursday Next books by Jaasper Fford they are well worth it.

And if you haven't read the book of The Princess Bride by William Goldman it is seriously good. Even if you've seen the film a hundred times it's worth reading the book.

I have a similar problem. I got out a stack of books hoping at least some of them would be good but, a lot aren't.

So, I have books but I'm not sure any of them will be your bag, baby.
