HELLO LivePeople! I hope your days are going well. Two post-its for you:

Loving this Guardian article (as recced by NeilGaiman) about how it's now sexy to read books:

Well of course it is, we all knew that. But it's worth reading for the wonderful comments below the article itself, including such hot discussion topics as Whether It's Creepy to Check Out What People are Reading on the Tube and Which Books Are Instant Attractions That Make You Look Twice And Smile And Possibly Ask For A Telephone Number.

And Londoners! I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in this, but my old MA tutor (well, not that old) is talking about Blair's outrageous conduct in a lecture at a conference on Shakespeare and Terrorism at the Globe Theatre on Saturday: (it's free to enter, but you need to register on the website). Read more about Shakespeare: Violence & Terror: A Symposium (Saturday 5 August 2006  9.30am-6.15pm) here  (about halfway down the page in Globe:Education Events)

(As for myself, I will be at Brighton Pride with the iridescent [personal profile] buddleia )

Thank you for glistening- now get on with it!

I enjoyed all the comments too, but I remain skeptical of the article...so books are the new dogs? Middle-class accessories for allowing you to have arousing encounters with strangers? (other middle-class strangers) Nah, I just like reading...For someone to interrupt a chapter to ask for my phone number they'd have to be pretty special. Maybe that's the point.

yes i know i know...I'm working up to this gradually. Figuring out how I navigate my way around this place. That's very dark about the babies. I make judgments all the time....and its very weird when someone is reading the same book as you. Like a whole collision between real and fictional worlds and you find yourself asking where that person is placed in relation to the novel. I cant deal with that.
