Aug. 24th, 2006 12:42 pmWent to see Fuerza Bruta at the Roundhouse last night with
buddleia, her Electric Landlady, and
bad_sheep and her missus.
Great venue (in the round unsurprisingly) and simply astonishing show. Combination of lively music and light show, with graceful acrobatic dancing on the walls and ceiling, along with fantastic set pieces (a man runs down a street, bumping into bystanders and furniture, all taking place on a moving stage; a man and woman struggle to climb a giant spinning tinfoil wheel, each on one side; two women chase each other across the walls, running and somersaulting; and four women playfully swim and slide on a giant suspended platform like the underside of a swimming pool, dangled above the audience, and lowered teasingly close enough to touch) Very physical performances, full of energy, sometimes dragging members of the audience into participating. (At one point, I got walloped over the head with a giant polystyrene block) The only downside was how crowded it was… and with stewards constantly moving the audience about, there was much jostling and ending up with people’s faces in your armpits and their boobs in your pocket. I think I trod on and killed three small children. Still, a small price to pay for such an invigorating and extraordinary spectacle. More like that please!
And yes, my favourite bit was with the four attractive semi-dressed girls slipping and sliding in water across the suspended glass ceiling. However did you guess? ;)
