The worst thing about being a temp? (or, you know, on a temporary contract) Is that nobody ever tells you anything until absolutely everyone else knows. Seriously, most things I can deal with. Being left alone in the dark (heh, see what I did there?) is not one of them.

There have been Stirrings and Rumblings of Great Import in the office today. The HR Manager and the VP of Human Resources have been sequestered in a boardroom all day and calling people in, both in teams and individually, and eating them alive from the head down. No, wait, I must've made up that last bit. The short story is that whatever MASSIVE CHANGES (most likely a complete shutdown) that are happening in the company are happening right now. Just over there. About thirty feet away. And I still know nothing.

*twiddles thumbs*

The HR Manager wandered past earlier. She looked at me vaguely and said "Oh yes, I must speak with you at some point. Maybe later today. When I'm not so busy." Then she smiled blankly, staring somewhere over my head. "I haven't forgotten about you," she assured me.

Not feeling quite so reassured...

ETA: Well, still haven't had the official talk but it looks like I'm here until Christmas. And then? *Littlest Hobo theme tune starts playing*

heehee we were just watching Littlest Hobo the other night. I love when fantasy and reality come together .. er... nevermind.

I think you should start a rumour that you are the top of. Or better yet, start calling people into your office.

Are there other temps there? That helped me when I was a temp. The fact that there was another temp there and she was a dolt. Gave me some comfort in knowing she'd at least go first.

Maybe get a whole Les Nesman thing going with an imaginary door and walls?

HR people baffle me. I'm not 100% sure of what their job function is. I KNOW it isn't to solve problems among the staff because they suck at that...so I'm wondering...what ARE they there for?

I've found it's like that whether you're a temp or not. Bloody companies! I sympathise completely.

I wish this revolution would get a move on. maybe it's just that the queue for first against the wall is too long and we should start picking them off now?
