Nov. 17th, 2006 02:27 pmQuick post to say I saw The Prestige last night and it blew me away... I will write a proper (and doubtless spoiler-packed) review of it when I have time (I have some pesky minutes to finish at work today, yah boo sux to werk) and I don't want to give anything away by even *hinting* at what the film contains, but if you think you might like a film that revolves around two duelling Victorian magicians, you MUST see this film. Awesome, best film I've seen in a good while.
I am now very much looking forward to Guillermo Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth after watching a trailer... (even though the trailer was nearly RUINED by the extremely Cheesy and Groan-worthy Voiceover Man1... I swear
buddleia would actually rip him into tiny shreds with her bare hands if she ever met him in person)
Right, back to *yawn* work...
1 eg. "In A Land... Ravaged by War... Innocence Will Face... The Ultimate Test... And From the Darkness... Will Emerge a LIGHT..." etc etc GROAN Kill IT KILL IT!!

"If you would like to see rrrrROLLERBALL, press 1 NOW"
Not that rrrrrROLLERBALL is high on my list of movies to ever watch again, but whenever I do say the title, I can't help but say it like him.

Date: 2006-11-17 06:21 pm (UTC)I do think you folks in North America have it much worse than we do - your voiceover guys are much cheesier and more melodramatic! Mind you, ours are bad enough. I think it's the same system over here, where a few professionals get ALL the voiceover work (for movie trailers, I mean).

Date: 2006-11-17 06:37 pm (UTC)There's been a trend in hollywood actors with recognizable voices doing a lot of commercial work lately. Most of them are pretty cool. James Earl Jones (obviously!), Keith David, Donald Sutherland ... but Kiefer Sutherland is a bit creepy to hear. Especially after we saw him in Phone Booth, and then have to hear him talk about family size compact cars...
