Yay, Jodie Foster came out! About time too. I hope it doesn't hurt her film career none. I always thought it was ridiculous that Hollywood/The American Film Industry should suffer from homofear. I mean, if there was ever an industry that was stuffed full of queers... what's next? The fashion industry? Hairdressers?

I did like the point made that people (especially celebrities) still have to "come out" as gay or lesbian, and yet nobody has to come out as being heterosexual. It thumbs a nose at our (still-outdated) ideas of heteronormativity.

Assume nothing, you ass.

I'm straight. But I get mistaken for a gay man all the time. To say I entirely didn't mind would be lying - after all, it kills my chances when I'm trying to pull - but I'm not offended. I am happy to be queering the soup.

i just don't see why there's so much attention paid to the gender of a person another person is having sex with. whose business is it other than those involved. like michael franti said, "i don't give a fuck who you're screwing in private, i wanna know who you're screwing in public!" one day it will be acknowledged that most mammals are, by nature, bisexual, and everyone will just get off their highhorses about morals and marriage and all that horseshit and get on with minding their own businesses.

Hollywood types don't want us knowing which of them are Jewish. Why would they want us poor saps knowing which are gay? It would ruin our lives!

As for Jodie specifically, took her long enough, but really, what does it matter? All I care is that she doesn't accept any more stupid scripts like Flight Plan. What's sad is that she has been with this woman for 15 years, but has never mentioned her. That's something for her to be ashamed of. Not because of her sexuality, but because she wasn't willing/able until now to ackowledge her and what she means to her life.

Frankly, it's sad that she felt the need to 'come out' one way or the other. The tabloids are going to speculate forever, but I have great respect for the Hollywood types like Michelle Pfeiffer, Johnny Depp, who don't play the game. Hell, Jodie was one of them, or so I thought.

I think that's a little unfair on Jodie... she certainly didn't make a big deal of "coming out" - that's what the media is for!

Yes, she's always refused to answer the question... now she's just casually let it slip. But I'm with you - who cares, and it's nobody's business but her own.

I'm sure a lot of lesbians I know will be happy. Totally unsurprised, but still happy.

Of course I barely read the article, but right from the start it's clear that it's the media making the hype about her "coming out." She didn't make the statement as a coming out. She was expressing her love for her partner, which is all well and good, but I'm concerned that she hasn't done that in the past. Why not? Was it fear of this media blitz?

Though yes, it's her private life and just as many stars feel it's inappropriate to have their children thrust into their spotlight, the same can be said about SOs.

But then again, that means poor Cydney hasn't gotten to go to any of the events with Jodie. Not just cuz hey, it might be fun to do so, but why wouldn't she have wanted to be there at Oscar night or something to support the woman she loves? (I assume she was in the audience at this event?) Maybe she doesn't want to, sure but...

This is all conjecture - whether it was Jodie herself who was unwilling to bring it up, or whether it was the Studio's imposition. And if it was jodie, well, we'll never know *why* really... unless she tells us herself.

That's funny (not your headache -- that's unfortunate), I was just about to edit to add that I am probably not making much sense in general. But I have no excuse.

INdeed though, I'm totally conjecturing. I didn't think about the studio aspect, which is pretty sad too. Although, if Jodie wanted to fight the power, then she coulda done like Prince and changed her name and then professed her undying love like there's no tomorrow!

No wait. I do have an excuse. I haven't had breakfast. Hunger makes me a little wonky.
